Calming Chaos by Promoting Positive Behavior

Overview
This training provides tools for utilizing positive guidance to promote positive group behaviors in the early childhood classroom. Using positive teacher/child interactions and the environment to prevent negative behaviors will be emphasized. Practical tips on what to do when challenging behaviors arise will also be addressed. This course is designed for new teachers and teacher aids.

Objective
Upon completion, learner will be able to:
  • Using training handouts, participants will identify five details about the Colorado Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators to gain an understanding of the competencies and how to use them.
  • Participants will use presentation and video content to name five ways to use positive teaching and guidance strategies that mitigate the effects of stress and separation when transitioning in the classroom.
  • Analyzing video presentation of teacher-child interactions, learner will identify two or more positive response interactions and their associated characteristics.
  • Learners will use course notes and video presentation to describe three environmental factors contributing to children’s behaviors and name two ways those factors influence a child’s social-emotional and cognitive development.
  • Participants will compare the adult-child interactions video presentations naming two strategies that promote positive behavior, problem-solving and self-regulation among children.

  • Guidance 5.2 Practices and applies developmentally appropriate guidance approaches that promote and teach positive behaviors, problem-solving, and self-regulation.
