Overview
This training helps early childhood educators and caregivers understand what responsive caregiving looks like in practice. We will explore areas of infant/toddler child development and developmentally appropriate practices including attachment theory, serve and return interactions, strategies to enhance adult-child relationships, and more. This exploration provides the opportunity to identify your own strategies to improve interactions with infants and toddlers in your care.

Objective
Upon completion, learner will be able to:

• Participants will review study data and video demonstrations which will enable them to describe at least two key findings, from research, regarding the importance of responsive caregiving in infant/toddler classrooms. 

• Through video presentations and reflection, participants will describe serve and return interactions, attachment theory, and the connection to building positive relationships.

• Through discussion, brainstorming and group activities, participants will develop several strategies and practices to use within their programs that will strengthen responsive relationships.

Competencies

This training aligns to Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators:

•Teaching Practices 35.1: Identifies environments and experiences that optimize children's social-emotional development.

•Child Growth, Development, and Learning 11.1: Describes how attachment relates to the growth, development, and learning of young children and builds positive relationships with children in their care. Demonstrates an understanding of how attachment varies across different cultural contexts.
