Overview
This course is intended to help educators use authentic child assessment data to achieve positive outcomes.  You will learn about foundational principles of data use and strategies for using assessment data for common purposes including planning, communication, self-monitoring, and self-reflection.

Target Audience
1. Teaching staff and related service providers who are using an authentic, observational child assessment system such as GOLD by Teaching Strategies or COR Advantage by High Scope.
2. Instructional coaches and other staff responsible for coaching or training educators on the use of child assessment data.

We strongly encourage administrators, directors, principals, instructional coaches, and other school or center leaders to complete this course to train/coach educators on the use of assessment data at their level.


Objective
Upon completion, the learner will be able to:
1. Apply strategies of authentic child assessment data use for planning, communication, and self-improvement on their own throughout the school year.
2. Expand the implementation of authentic child assessment from data entry to data use.

Competencies
COA 3.2. Uses child observation and assessment strategies on a regular basis to collect information about each child and monitors results to inform planning and referrals. 
COA 5.2. Applies assessment data (both indirect and direct) in curriculum, instruction, professional practice, and interaction with children, seeking support as needed. Is able to link assessment data to child progress and goal setting for individual and groups of children.
