This training provides an overview of how children’s brains develop and what factors can influence healthy and age-appropriate development. We explore how early experiences can influence learning, behavior, and development.

Early Childhood Teachers/Staff, Family Child Care Providers, and Directors

Upon completion, learner will be able to:

  • Through reviewing brain research, the Colorado ELDGs and a child’s typical developmental milestones, participants will be able to describe at least two recommended practices for optimum physical development, with specific emphasis on brain development. 

  • Participants will review movement milestones for children and work together to create at least two developmentally appropriate activities that support physical development.

This training aligns to Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators.

  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition 6.1: Explains daily routines for rest/sleep and physical activity/play as developmentally appropriate.

  • Child Growth, Development, and Learning 4.1: Describes current research on the importance of early experiences in the development of the whole child, with particular emphasis on brain development.
