Overview
Immunizations in child cares and schools are required by Colorado law and is an important part of the licensing of your child care or preschool. The course is intended to address all aspects of required immunization rules for the 2020-2021 school year.

Target Audience
The Colorado Department of Human Services’ Office of Early Childhood has included in their licensing rules that staff responsible for collection, review and maintenance of the child immunization records must complete the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment “Child Care/Preschool Immunization Course.” 

The Course is updated on July 1st of every year and is to be taken on an annual basis.

Objective

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe why immunizations are important
  • Identify the immunizations required for children to attend child care or preschool in Colorado. 
  • Define medical and non-medical exemptions.
  • Identify the immunization documents that need to be kept on file for each child.


Competencies

Health Safety and Nutrition 1.1:  Identifies the purpose of the following licensing regulations and training as designated by job : Administration of Medication; Universal Precautions; CPR/First Aid training; Fire and disaster drills; Child abuse and neglect; Communicable disease; Adult: child ratios; Emergency procedures; Transportation and transportation safety; Has knowledge of and complies with Licensing regulations.

Health Safety and Nutrition 1.2  Implements program health, safety and nutrition standards.
