Boulder Journey School - Science with Young Children

Overview
How do we harness young children’s natural inclinations toward understanding the world around them? How do we view everyday materials with new eyes? This workshop offers practice identifying children’s engagement in science concepts and strategies for facilitating diving deeper alongside the children.

$50 payable through Boulder Journey School when registering.
Objective
Upon completion, learner will be able to:
  • Design experiences to engage in play through an adult lens using content presented in video module.
  • Identify and describe the scientific concepts within play by reflecting on content presentation.
  • Design experiences to engage children deepening their relationship with scientific concepts.
  • Develop next steps for further self-exploration.
Competencies
This training aligns to Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators.

Teaching Practices 24.3 Plans, assesses, and evaluates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that support the beginning understanding of: • Scientific thinking and inquiry • Active exploration of materials in the environment • The exploration of the natural outdoor environment.

Teaching Practices 25.1 Defines opportunities for children to ask questions and find answers through active exploration of materials in the environment.

Registration
Participants register and make payment through Boulder Journey School. Upon completion of course, participant data will be forwarded to PDIS with certificate issued through PDIS account.

This course has been recognized as aligned to The Colorado Competencies and meeting best practice standards for adult instruction through the Colorado Shines PDIS Training Alignment Process. The Rules Regulating Child Care Facilities, issued by the Division of Early Care and Learning, Colorado Department of Human Services, take precedence over any course content.
