This course is an overview of child health promotion practices highlighted in the new Colorado Shines Quality Rating and Improvement System including medical homes and preventative health care.

Objective

Learner will be able to:

  1. Define medical home and how it contributes to quality early childhood programs
  2. Identify where you can refer families for assistance with health insurance and medical homes
  3. Identify the importance of periodic preventive health care for children including hearing, vision and dental screenings
  4. Identify where you refer families for preventive health care
Competencies
HSN 8.1. Describes curriculum-based activities emphasizing the basics of nutrition, physical, and medical care. 
FCP 13.1. Identifies community resources and services available to support children and their families.
